Exercise Physiology

Where exercise is your medicine

A clinical exercise physiologist is a healthcare professional who helps administer exercise prescription to patients who have chronic disease including cardiovascular disease, COPD, cancer, metabolic disease or have risk factors that put them at risk of developing one of these diseases.

Through proper exercise testing, a clinical exercise physiologist is able to create an exercise plan for individuals with these conditions based on their medical history, medications, performance on stress testing and any other limitations they may have.

A clinical exercise physiologist will measure blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation throughout exercise to make sure the patient is able to tolerate the specific program. If a patient is diabetic, regular pre and post exercise sugar readings will be taken.

Progress notes are sent to the patients doctor so they are aware of what their patient is doing in terms of exercise. This includes increases in MET capacity, waist and weight measurements, goals and any changes in symptoms
